Amur leopards are dangerously close to extinction, and experts are doing everything they can think of, to help the leopards. Their fur is about one 20-25mm thick in the summer and 50mm thick in the winter. Amur leopards have longer legs than other cats, adapted to walk in the deep snow. Their soft coat is a bright golden brown in the summer and a warm and dimmer color in the winter, to help camouflage in the snow. Many people think that a jaguar, snow leopard, and Amur leopard look the same, but in truth, the Amur leopard's spots are more widely spaced, with rosettes that are outlined in thick borders and placed in a unique pattern. This predator has large, powerful jaws and long pointed canine teeth used to grab their prey tightly, killing it in the process. They also have premolars located at the back of the mouth, and it has surfaces specially designed for shearing and chewing meat. These teeth are also known as the "carnassial" teeth. The Amur leopard also have a sharp, pointed papillae on the tongue that helps remove the meat from bones. Fortunately, the lifespan of an Amur leopard is 17 years, the oldest of leopards.
